The Pyramid, stationary, indifferent, and silent.
The Prisoner, trapped forever within a marble figurine.
The Mirror, in which even players see themselves as pawns.
The Moon, always played on the same endless black square.
The Shadow, waiting beneath the king to take your place.
The Spy, whose true color is not known until made to bleed.
The Spectre, who remembers and mourns your every loss.
The Heir, whose gray blood reminds you of a kingdom long lost.
The Plague, just biding its time inside your pawns.
The Machine, that from which all pawns emerge.
The Gravedigger, who deals with the pieces that keep crawling back.
